San Bernardino internet weather site is WeatherCurrents' 15th

Posted March 4, 2011, 3:33 PM.

Today WeatherCurrents is announcing the launch of its fifteenth community weather site, in San Bernardino, California.

The weather station for the site is located in downtown San Bernardino, atop the Carousel Mall, at the studios of KCAA Radio, 1050AM.

The installation is significant because it fills a hole in the Inland Empire's observations.

"This is really good news," said lead forecaster Mark Moede at the regional office of the National Weather Service. Moede noted that San Bernardino has not had reliable data on a daily basis since a weather station at the former Norton Air Force Base closed in 1994.

Data from the San Bernardino station is provided to the National Weather Service hourly.

For WeatherCurrents, the installation represents its first location in San Bernardino County. Further locations are planned in the county, in Colton, Rialto, Fontana, Rancho Cucamonga and Ontario.

Installation in San Bernardino occurred over a couple of days last month.

WeatherCurrents also added a location in Beaumont earlier this year, and will be adding locations in Rubidoux and Carlsbad (in San Diego County) over the next six months.

The full press release for WeatherCurrents' newest location is available online.
