Across nearly all of Southern California, October 2015 was one of the warmest Octobers ever observed.

This follows a very warm October in 2014 as well, and a warm 2015 thus far. In the WeatherCurrents network, the average temperature for the month of October 2015 exceeded the previous warmest October record held there, which occurred in 1999 (records for Temecula date back to August 1999). At most of WeatherCurrents stations, October 2015 beat the previous warmest October there just a year earlier. Exceptions include Beaumont, where October 2014 was slightly warmer, and in Hemet, where October 2015 was only the fourth warmest October observed there (records for that station date back to January 2003). In Hemet, Octobers of 2008, 2014 and 2003 were warmer.

The warm October weather was exacerbated by summer-like heat persisting into the middle of the month, followed by an unseasonably warm marine layer plus Santa Ana Winds at the end of the month.

The National Weather Service also confirmed October 2015 as the all-time warmest in most cities in the Los Angeles Basin, the greater L.A. area, and San Diego. October 1983 was previously the warmest October on record in both cities. Records for Downtown Los Angeles date back to 1877. Records for San Diego date back to 1850.
