By Reginald Stanley. Posted August 1, 2026, 6:20 PM.An Extreme Heat Warning issued by the National Weather Service for the inland valleys will remain in effect until 8 PM Sunday, as high heat continues to grip Southern California. Highs in the uppers 90s and 100s have been observed across the WeatherCurrents network over the past few days, with Lake Elsinore even topping 112 degrees on Saturday afternoon. Unusually high humidities, attributed to much warmer-than-average sea surface temperatures (SSTs) off the SoCal coast, have provided little relief from the daytime heat even at night throughout July. As a result, average temperatures across Southern California were significantly above normal for the month of July - a trend that appears to continue into at least the first half of August. Monsoonal moisture, which has been largely absent from the region up to this point this summer, is forecast to increase next week - primarily affecting the mountains and deserts. Forecasts show little relief from our summer heat in the coming several weeks. |
