A weak storm brought scattered rainfall to the region Thursday and Friday. For most stations, this was the first measurable rainfall since December 20th, ending a 40-day winter dry spell. Some communities, however, did not record any measurable rainfall from the storm.
Rain amounts were generally under .10", although a higher total was recorded in Cherry Valley. The lack of rainfall for the 2013-14 rain season so far has heightened drought and wildfire risk. In South Temecula, where records date back to 1999, January 2014 was the driest January recorded there (but only the second warmest, behind 2003). Seasonal rainfall totals continue to stay very far below normal for this time of year. A small chance of showers is currently predicted for Monday, but rainfall is expected to be light (if any at all).
