Rice Canyon Fire Threatening Fallbrook Area Monday; Mandatory Evacuation Orders Issued; I-15 Closed near Fallbrook

Posted October 22, 2007, 4:05 PM.

There were reports of mandatory evacuations from Fallbrook Monday afternoon as a wildfire which began south of Rainbow in Rice Canyon was burning to the west.

Interstate 15 was closed and the fire had reportedly jumped the freeway near Old Highway 395 and Reche Road.

The evacuation order was in effect for all of Fallbrook. Residents were urged to use the Camp Pendleton gates and travel all the way to Interstate 5.

One report Monday afternoon, however, stated that the fire had stopped advancing. It had reportedly burned 120 acres after starting in the 4am hour.

A statement from North County Fire said that firefighting resources were spread very thin and that there weren't a lot of resources available to fight the Rice Canyon Fire.
