A small earthquake, centered approximately 1 mile southeast of La Habra and 3 miles north of Fullerton, shook the region at 9:09 PM Friday night. The earthquake was measured at a magnitude of 5.1 on the Richter scale.
The earthquake occurred along the Puente Hills thrust fault, according to the USGS website. Numerous aftershocks were felt afterward, the strongest being a magnitude 3.6 aftershock at 9:30 PM.
The quake was felt strongest in Orange County and the LA Basin, but also felt widely in Ventura, San Bernardino and Riverside counties. The earthquake resulted in minor damage near the epicenter. |
