By Reginald Stanley. Posted June 21, 2023, 12:08 PM.June, and Spring more broadly, has been one of the coolest such periods in Southern California in recent memory to-date. Mild temperatures and frequent marine layer intrusions have been commonplace in recent weeks across the region, with the majority of WeatherCurrents stations currently on track to record the coolest-ever June. At WeatherCurrents' longest-running station in Temecula, which has been in service since August 1999, this June currently holds an average temperature of 63.7 degrees - over five degrees cooler than the long-term June average and over a full degree cooler than the previous coolest June there, which occurred in 2011. At many other locations in Southern California, the most recent June that was nearly this cool happened in 2003. Records from Downtown Los Angeles, where records date back to 1877, show June 2023 being the coolest such month since 1965. Low pressure near the West Coast is forecast to keep temperatures extra-cool over the next several days. Some mild warming is predicted for the region next week. |
