Isolated showers hit region Sunday and Monday

By Reginald Stanley. Posted August 1, 2022, 6:54 PM.

Monsoonal moisture brought scattered showers to parts of Southern California and the broader Southwest on Sunday and Monday, and is set to return to the region again late in the week.

Only two active WeatherCurrents stations recorded measurable precipitation by Monday evening, in Pinon Hills and Anza - both at relatively high elevations. Pinon Hills, facing the Mojave Desert, was hit harder by thunderstorms with a total of 0.55 inches. Meanwhile, Anza received only 0.05 inches. In East Highland, a rather high total of 1.27 inches was reported by Monday morning (courtesy of Peter Michas). In central Murrieta, 0.04 inches fell early Sunday morning, while much of the rest of the Temecula Valley received either a trace or no rain at all. WeatherCurrents' official Murrieta station in the city's northwestern suburbs did not record any measurable rainfall. The bulk of the thunderstorm activity was confined to the mountains and deserts.

Following drier weather mid-week, monsoonal moisture is forecast to bring chances of thunderstorms and showers to the region once again late in the week.

Here are the rain totals for the WeatherCurrents network and associates:

Location Storm Source
East Highland 1.27"  Peter Michas
Pinon Hills 0.55"  WeatherCurrents
Anza 0.05"  WeatherCurrents
Central Murrieta 0.04"  Reginald Stanley
