Hail reported in parts of inland valleys Wednesday morning

By Reginald Stanley. Posted March 10, 2021, 5:05 PM.

Hail, thunder and lightning were reported from different parts of the inland valleys and coasts as the initial rain band passed through the region Wednesday morning, while showers have been less common during the afternoon.

The Temecula Valley, Riverside, and the eastern valleys experienced bursts of heavy rain, accompanied by thunder, lightning and even hail Wednesday morning. Preliminary storm totals have ranged from as high as 0.61 inches in Beaumont (Cherry Valley) to 0.09 inches in Pinon Hills. Pinon Hills' total may not yet be complete due to near-freezing temperatures and snow at that location, which lies at a high elevation in the northern San Gabriel Mountains. Storm totals have so far averaged around 1/3 inches. Additional showers and potential thunderstorms are still possible through Friday morning, with showers becoming more widespread once again Wednesday evening into Thursday.

The National Weather Service has also issued a Winter Weather Advisory for areas over 2,500 feet above sea level, with relatively low snow levels expected overnight Wednesday and Thursday morning. Travel may be adversely impacted on the Interstate 15 and Interstate 10 corridors through the Cajon Pass and San Gorgonio Pass, respectively.
