Low pressure systems bring cool, breezy and occasionally damp weather this week

By Reginald Stanley. Posted May 21, 2021, 5:21 PM.

Low pressure over Southern California was responsible for a deep marine layer and associated light showers in some areas over May 16-17, and is once again taking hold over the region late this week, ushering more cool, breezy weather.

Most communities did not record measurable precipitation, but where rain did fall, amount were light, mostly under 1/10 inch. In East Highland, 0.13 inches was recorded by Monday evening (courtesy of Peter Michas), while 0.08" was reported in Yucaipa (courtesy of Don Kramer). The typically wet communities of De Luz and Fallbrook both also managed to receive measurable rainfall, with amounts of 0.06 and 0.09 inches respectively. Elsewhere, WeatherCurrents' station in East Hemet recorded 0.05 inches, while 0.01 inch was recorded in south Temecula.

Following a brief mid-week warmup, low pressure returned Thursday to bring cool, often cloudy, breezy weather conditions to the region once more. A slight chance of light precipitation remains in place in and west of the mountains, along with gusty winds across the region throughout Friday. Warm temperatures are forecast to return Sunday, followed by another bout of cooler-than-normal temperatures later in the week.
