Another round of wet weather hit the region over the weekend, in what has been an active March so far.
Widespread rain fell across the region Saturday and early Sunday, with rain totals generally between 1/3 and 1 inch by Sunday's end. The storm tapped into subtropical moisture on Saturday, providing a boost and leading to slightly higher totals than originally forecast. Hemet lead the way with a high total of 1.22 inches. Simi Valley, northwest of Los Angeles, placed second at 0.97 inches. Beaumont (Cherry Valley) and South Fallbrook reported 0.91 and 0.90 inches, respectively. On the drier side of the storm were Anza (0.31 inches) and Pinon Hills in last place, with just 0.12 inches - typical of that dry location. Other WeatherCurrents stations reported between 1/3 and 9/10 of an inch. In East Highland, 0.72 inches was reported (courtesy of Peter Michas), while 0.48 inches was reported in Temecula Valley's Wine Country (courtesy of Jim Sappington).
The March rains have been welcome after a parched rainy season up through the end of February, with only two storms of notability occurring at all. Season totals, however, remain well below normal to date. It would take many more storms for there to be a possibility of catching up to even "normal" seasonal rainfall-to-date. More rain is in the forecast.
