The third substantial storm of the month contributed moderately to season totals Friday and Saturday.
Overnight rain totals in the inland valley ranged from 0.15" (East San Jacinto) to 0.68" (Fallbrook). Unlike a lot of the recent storms, but following normal patterns, rainfall was concentrated in the south.
Originally showers were forecast to last through Saturday, but the rain was largely over by mid-morning Saturday, providing a nice break between storms.
The next storm, expected to be similar or less in intensity, was due overnight Sunday.
We're used to getting a lot of rain in February recently. Despite the three storms so far this month, totals for February were running under normal. In Temecula, for instance, 2.68" measured so far was about an inch under a ten year average of 3.62." Hemet was 0.71" below normal for the month, Fallbrook 1.14", Murrieta 1.39", Lake Elsinore 1.50" and Menifee 1.03".
It should be noted that averages for Lake Elsinore and Menifee in particular cover only the last half of the past decade.
Seasonal totals remained well above normal, thanks the strength of storms in December and January.
The Perris rain gauge continued to be inoperable through this latest storm. A wiring problem is the latest suspect there.
