Strong Santa Ana Winds batter region Friday and Saturday

By Reginald Stanley. Posted January 21, 2022, 5:09 PM.

The National Weather Service issued a High Wind Warning for much of inland Southern California through 6 PM Saturday, as strong Santa Ana Winds began blowing across the region Friday afternoon. The winds may be potentially damaging in many areas.

Northeast winds of generally between 25 mph and 35 mph, with strong gusts exceeding 40 mph in many locations, are expected to continue through Friday evening and overnight into Saturday. The strongest winds are expected to occur in and around mountain passes (particularly the Cajon Pass) and coastal mountain slopes. Potentially damaging impacts include downed power lines and blown down trees, along with other blowing debris. Winds will continue Saturday, but are forecast to become more easterly and not as strong, before diminishing Sunday. Onshore flow is predicted to make a brief return early next week before reverting back to offshore flow.
