Storm Totals: December 25th-26th, 2021 (updated)

By Reginald Stanley. Posted December 26, 2021, 11:53 PM.

A fast-moving trough brought continued damp weather to the region Christmas Day and early Sunday morning, adding to a modestly wet period in Southern California this December.

Patchy light showers persisted west of the mountains throughout Christmas Day, becoming more steady and consistent late Saturday evening as the main rain band swept across the region. The storm was colder than the previous one, but also generally weaker and produced lower rain totals. Combined storm totals from December 25 and 26 ranged from 0.57 inches at WeatherCurrents' stations in Temecula and French Valley, to 0.14 inches in Perris. Western parts of the Inland Empire was somewhat wetter, as well as WeatherCurrents' station in Simi Valley to the northwest, while parts of the eastern valleys received lower rain totals overall. A total of 1.08 inches was reported in East Highland by Sunday morning (courtesy of Peter Michas), while 0.64 inches was reported in Temecula Valley's Wine Country (courtesy of Jim Sappington). The majority of the precipitation fell Saturday night and early Sunday morning, which was also accompanied by moderate winds. Snow levels were lower during the storm, as low as 4000 feet above sea level, but accumulations below 7000 feet were not significant.

Skies had largely cleared out by late Sunday morning, while a cold air mass remained over the region. Following a chilly night, yet another storm system is forecast to bring more rain and mountain snow to Southern California late Monday and Tuesday, with more cold temperatures and wind.
