Sizzling heat returned to the Southern California inland valleys the first part of this week, fueled by upper level high pressure. As was the case last week, Lake Elsinore again was the hottest WeatherCurrents location, registering a 106.2°F on Monday, just underneath last week's 107.1°F. Fallbrook continued to be the cool spot, although yesterday's 93.4°F was the hottest of the year, followed by an even hotter 96.8°F on Wednesday.
Last week, the Riverside area was cooler than the Temecula Valley region, but this week the heat is more widespread. Riverside's 99.3°F yesterday was the hottest of the year at that location.
Generally, except for the western-most communities like Fallbrook, the rest of this week should be slightly cooler and have fewer triple digit days as humidity and partly cloudy skies take over. Moist, unstable air should lead to a chance of thunderstorms for the rest of the week.
