A particularly warm offshore wind event was responsible for soaring temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday this week, which broke numerous daily high temperature records according to the National Weather Service.

Lake Elsinore reported a high temperature of 95 degrees on Tuesday, which was the warmest temperature anywhere in the entire United States on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. By contrast, the lowest temperature was -5 degrees in Embarrass, MN. Temperatures soared even higher Wednesday, where temperatures of 99 degrees were observed in four different locations - Camarillo, San Diego (Montgomery Field), Miramar NAS, and Santee - all in Southern California. All four tied for the warmest temperatures anywhere in the nation Wednesday. Lake Elsinore reached 97 degrees Wednesday.

Most other inland communities recorded high temperatures in the low 90s Wednesday afternoon. A gradual cool down is forecast to take place going into the weekend, although temperatures will remain above normal.
