A warm, subtropical storm brought rain to the region Monday. A low pressure system over Baja California pulled subtropical moisture northwards into Southern California, putting an end to dry, windy conditions that were present in the area.
Showers began shortly after noon on Monday, and lasted through Monday evening. Storm totals for WeatherCurrents communities were mostly in line with predictions of up to 1/3 of an inch. The highest rain total was half an inch, recorded in French Valley. San Diego's City Heights neighborhood recorded the lowest total, with just .02 inches. This storm was atypical; it did not conform to terrain orographics and rainfall distribution like most winter storms. Communities that typically record low rainfall totals during winter storms were some of the wettest locations this time around.
The subtropical nature of the storm held temperatures significantly warmer than average on Monday, in addition to the storm following a Santa Ana Wind event that had kept temperatures very warm overnight Sunday. The storm had departed the region by Monday night. Many inland communities recorded additional one hundredths of an inch Tuesday morning, due to drizzle from patchy dense fog.
