Surface high pressure over the great basin area is fueling heat and winds in the region in what is the first Santa Ana wind event this fall. Most of the gusty winds are expected to be to the north, from Riverside to the passes and canyons, according to the National Weather Service advisory. Winds and gusts should decrease this afternoon.
At mid-morning, offshore winds were blowing in nearly all WeatherCurrents locations in Riverside and San Diego counties, but the speeds were generally in the teens or below.
Further north, gusts of up to 70mph were forecast for some areas of Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
