A strong storm system brought bouts of heavy rain and wind to the region on Tuesday, the northern and central California being more severely affected than the southern portion of the state.
For more northerly locations, rain began late Monday night, while most of Southern California did not begin receiving measurable rainfall until after midnight Tuesday. A particularly heavy band of rain swept across the region Tuesday afternoon, resulting in minor street flooding and related flood damage. Storm totals varied, from as high as 2.37 inches in Simi Valley to as low as 0.28 inches in Anza. Perris, as previously noted, is no longer being counted until further notice due to rain gauge problems there which were reporting erroneously low for a prolonged period of time. Corrected totals for WeatherCurrents' stations in Temecula and Murrieta will be used for this story. In Temecula Valley's Wine Country, a total of 0.92 inches was reported on Tuesday (courtesy of Jim Sappington). Also notable were the season totals of Murrieta and Lake Elsinore, both of which were the first WeatherCurrents stations to surpass 10 inches of rainfall for the 2022-2023 water year so far.
