Twin quakes in Anza-Borrego desert shake inland valleys Saturday night

A couple of mild earthquakes about a half minute apart in the Anza-Borrego desert were felt across Southern California Saturday night. The first was a magnitude 4.9 on the Richter scale, centered about 19 miles southeast of Anza. It struck at 8:09pm. The second was a magnitude 4.6 on the Richter scale, less than a mile from the first. It occurred about 30 seconds later. The quakes were on the Coyote Creek fault, part of the San Jacinto fault zone. There were no reports of damage. |
