A strong ridge of high pressure is responsible for the heat and low humidity across the region this week, which has helped to spark multiple wildfires across the region - sending smoke into the inland valleys.

High temperatures this afternoon are several degrees warmer inland than yesterday, with both Lake Elsinore and Wildomar already having reached triple-digits as of this writing. The majority of other WeatherCurrents stations are well into the 90s, with only higher elevations in the 80s. Coastal areas are experiencing roughly the same temperatures as on Tuesday, and cooler in some cases. Smoke from a number of wildfires, burning in Camp Pendleton and elsewhere, have sent smoke into the inland valleys since Tuesday afternoon. This has been exacerbated by very low humidities, mainly in the single digits inland.

A cooling trend will begin on Thursday as onshore flow develops, as well as a strengthened marine layer. Warming is expected to resume on Sunday, as high pressure slowly rebuilds over the region.
