Another in a series of weekend storms left rain in the inland valleys Saturday and Sunday, padding rainfall totals that were already above normal for the year.
After some showers Saturday afternoon, there were numerous showers Saturday night, followed by sporadic showers on Sunday.
Rainfall amounts were highly variable, ranging light to moderate. French Valley (0.06") recorded the lowest amount of the thirteen WeatherCurrents stations. De Luz (0.43") was the highest.
Other moderate totals were recorded at Hemet (0.42"), Fallbrook (0.33"), Murrieta (0.25"), San Jacinto (0.25"), Moreno Valley (0.24") and Wildomar (0.23").
Joining French Valley on the lighter side were Menifee (0.11"), Temecula (0.11"), Perris (0.12"), Lake Elsinore (0.12") and Riverside (0.14"). The Temecula Valley Wine Country (0.05" by Jim Sappington) and Eastern Murrieta (0.05" by Reginald Stanley) also had low amounts.
Like a few storms this winter, the bulk of the rain was well to the south, over Baja California. The storm was cold, however, and in East San Jacinto, according to Monty Parrot, hail, corn snow and sleet were mixed in with light rain.
A fast moving storm was poised to follow up the weekend storm on Monday night and Tuesday. The new system was sweeping in from the north and might add another tenth of an inch to season totals in the form of showers.
The Perris rain gauge continued to be inoperable through this latest storm, as it has through this winter, probably due to a wiring fault.
