The Lilac Fire in northern San Diego County, which has been burning for over 7 days, is now 96 percent contained according to CalFire.
After growing to 4,100 acres on December 8th and remaining roughly that size through the 10th, Santa Ana Winds calmed and conditions improved which helped firefighters control the blaze. During the fire, 157 structures were destroyed, and 64 were damaged. Mandatory evacuation orders and road closures have since been lifted, with residents allowed to return to their homes.
Santa Ana Winds are expected to continue through the weekend, however, albeit not as severe. Low humidity and high fire danger will remain going into next week. No rain is currently in the forecast. |
