Another two storms through the weekend

Posted March 24, 2011, 4:53 PM.

Spring is off to a wet start. The third storm of the week was on approach Thursday afternoon, getting ready to deliver what is predicted to be a quarter to a half of an inch of rain through Friday morning.

According to the National Weather Service, we will see light to moderate rainfall and strong but isolated wind gusts tonight, and another round of mountain snow above the 4,500 to 5,500 foot level.

The final storm of the week, set for Saturday night and Sunday morning, is currently predicted to be weaker. Showers are forecast, and about a tenth of an inch of rainfall. A partly cloudy, unsettled break, will mark the time in between the two systems.

Even before these final two storm, it's been the wettest March since 2006. A sampling of the monthly totals to date includes 2.77" in Lake Elsinore, 1.97" in Fallbrook, 1.92" in Temecula, 1.89" in San Bernardino, 1.56" in Hemet and 1.23" in Riverside. Normal rainfall for the month is about an inch in most locations.

Following the weekend, a warming trend is expected to begin and we should return to a period of mostly sunny skies.
