By Reginald Stanley. Rainfall, however, was polarizing - northern and central California both benefited from a massive surplus of rainfall during the month, however none of these storm systems brought anything meaningful to Southern California, with some locations ending the month having received no measurable rainfall at all. Southern California's overall dry pattern has been ongoing throughout all of summer and fall of 2024, largely caused by a persistent blocking dome of high pressure over northern Baja California and southeastern California. This area of high pressure prevented any significant thunderstorm or monsoonal activity over the summer months, and has so far blocked nearly all incoming moisture from the north during the Fall. Unfortunately this pattern appears to continue at least into mid-December, with warmer temperatures expected as well. As a result, all WeatherCurrents stations are currently facing a growing rainfall deficit, with no locations reaching even half of November's monthly rainfall averages. Later in the week, Santa Ana Winds are in the forecast from Thursday through Saturday. Warmer temperatures are expected as well. |
