Storm Totals: September 15th-16th, 2015

By Reginald Stanley. Posted September 17, 2015, 6:39 PM.

Remnants of former Hurricane Linda produced more consistent showers on Tuesday, with residual showers continuing into Wednesday in some communities.

Rain totals were quite high for the time of year all across the region, with many communities recording their wettest Septembers on record so far. Precipitation ranged from just over half an inch in Anza to over two inches in East Highland (courtesy of Peter Michas), with most communities recording between one and two inches. The wettest locations were on mountain slopes, the San Bernardino-Riverside metro area, and the typically wet De Luz and Fallbrook communities. Totals were not quite as high in the Temecula Valley and eastern valleys, however the rain was still significant. Totals of 1.00 inch and 0.98 inches were reported at East San Jacinto (courtesy of Monty Parrott) and Temecula Valley Wine Country (courtesy of Jim Sappington), respectively.

Storm totals for Wildomar and Riverside (Canyon Crest) were not available due to station outages there. The rain gauge at Jurupa Valley is malfunctioning and reporting unusually low precipitation totals.

The early season rains have boosted season totals to well above normal for the time of year, and may have potentially suppressed the fire season this fall. The brunt of the rainy season is still ahead, however. The wettest months are typically December through March.
