Storm Totals: May 14th-15th, 2015 (updated)

By Reginald Stanley. Posted May 15, 2015, 10:20 PM.

A another cold, late-season Pacific Storm - the second of this May so far - distributed uneven amounts of rain and mountain snow to Southern California this week.

Precipitation totals for the storm ranged from as high as 1.70 inches in Temecula Valley's Wine Country (courtesy of Jim Sappington) to a mere 0.33 inches in Perris. Favored locations included communities located in or near foothills and mountains, helped by orographic lift - De Luz, Fallbrook, and South Temecula in particular. Hemet, French Valley, and San Diego's City Heights to the south also recorded high totals. Most other locations fared with totals of less than one inch, the driest locations being within the vicinity of Riverside, San Bernardino, and eastern valleys.

A notable difference of 0.71 inches was observed within a relatively short distance, between WeatherCurrents' Hemet station (1.33 inches) and contributor Monty Parrott in neighboring San Jacinto (0.62 inches). The rain gauge at WeatherCurrents' Moreno Valley station was inoperable during the storm.

The storm further contributed to a surprisingly cool and wet May this year, at least as of this writing. Snow levels dropped to approximately 5,500 feet above sea level Thursday and Friday. Mild Spring weather is expected to continue through early next week.
