Following several days of widespread rainfall across the entire region, unsettled weather and scattered showers remained over the region Wednesday as low pressure from the north prepares to send yet another round of rain and mountain snow to an already soaked landscape.

A period of very wet weather since late January has brought season totals across the region from well below-average to above-average as of February 7, with some locations now exceeding their entire seasonal averages for the second year in a row. As of Wednesday afternoon, shower activity has been mostly limited to San Diego County and western Riverside County. Increasing showers Wednesday night, with a slight chance of thunderstorms, will give way to more widespread precipitation again Thursday and Friday. Some showers may persist into Saturday morning, particularly in the mountains. This storm system will be colder than what the region experienced earlier in the week. Snow levels have already dropped significantly to around 4000 feet above sea level Wednesday; this is expected to continue through the end of the week. Gusty westerly winds are also appearing inland Wednesday afternoon, forecast to continue into Thursday morning. Rainfall projections through Thursday morning indicate additional amounts of between 0.5 and 1 inch across the inland valleys and coastal portions of San Diego County, with potentially higher amounts between 1 and 1.5 inches further inland in San Diego County. Drier parts of the Inland Empire are forecast to receive an additional 0.4 to 0.5 inches through Thursday morning.

Drier, warmer weather near seasonal averages returns next week beginning on Sunday. Storm totals from February 4th through the 7th will be posted either late Wednesday or Thursday.
