A period of unsettled weather brought scattered showers to parts of the region early this month.
Storm totals varied widely depending on geographic location. Precipitation amounts were greatest in San Diego County, Riverside, and the San Jacinto valley to the east. Amounts ranged from as high as 0.76 inches in Beaumont (Cherry Valley) to as little as 0.02 inches in French Valley. The Temecula Valley received only light rainfall. Pinon Hills, at the northern edge of the San Gabriel Mountains, was the only WeatherCurrents station to record no measurable rainfall during the stretch of unsettled weather. Other notable totals included 0.50 inches in East San Jacinto (courtesy of Monty Parrott), 0.18 inches in East Highland (courtesy of Peter Michas), and 0.10 inches in Temecula Valley's Wine Country (courtesy of Jim Sappington).
Warmer, drier weather ensued following the unsettled period - typical for this time of year as the rainy season comes to a close. Rain usually becomes less common by the end of May. In some years, Southern California may not receive any rain at all in May.
