Several weak, fast-moving shortwave troughs brought scattered showers to the region on Friday, with a focus on San Diego County and southwestern Riverside County - concluding a very wet start to the month across Southern California.
Showery activity increased across the aforementioned areas around midnight Friday, and continued through Friday afternoon before the remaining moisture largely dissipated outside of the mountains. Precipitation amounts were no more than 1/4 inch at the majority of communities where rain did fall. In the WeatherCurrents network, only Riverside (Orangecrest) and Pinon Hills failed to register any measurable rainfall on Friday. The wettest totals were primarily focused in and around the Temecula Valley, as well as San Diego County and Anza. Northwest Murrieta was the wettest location where steady showers continued through a long portion of the day and afternoon, having recorded 0.29 inches, there as well as 0.26 inches in the central part of the city. In Temecula Valley's Wine Country, 0.17 inches was reported (courtesy of Jim Sappington). Northerly locations generally were much drier. Sunny, windier weather followed Friday's rainfall.
