By Reginald Stanley. Posted January 12, 2024, 3:21 PM.A fast-moving low pressure system brought sporadic precipitation and strong winds to parts of the region Thursday morning, with the bulk of the precipitation confined to San Diego County. Storm totals are generally light, and many communities did not receive any measurable rainfall at all. Across the WeatherCurrents network, Anza recorded the highest total with 0.19 inches. Fallbrook and South Temecula also benefited with amounts of 0.13 and 0.11 inches respectively. A modest total of 0.31 inches was reported in Temecula Valley's Wine Country (courtesy of Jim Sappington). Just to the north, very little precipitation fell, revealing the highly selective nature of rainfall distribution early Thursday. Murrieta, French Valley and East Hemet were the only other WeatherCurrents stations that recorded measurable rainfall Thursday, and these amounts were very light. Gusty winds Thursday morning briefly interrupted a string of cold nights across Southern California, most peak gusts across the inland valleys were in the 20-30 MPH range. Clear conditions prevailed later that day and into Friday as low pressure exited to the southeast. Cold nights returned by Friday morning before another weak system brings chances of light rain to the region Sunday, mostly in San Diego County again. High pressure was forecast to bring warmer weather to the region next week. Long-range forecasts currently suggest the return of wet weather to Southern California around January 20-21. Here are the rain totals for the WeatherCurrents network and associates:
