Insider Slider to bring strong winds to Simi Valley

By Jim Purpura. Posted January 6, 2012, 1:16 PM.

A cold high pressure area will move to the Great Basin region by the end of the weekend as a a trough of low pressure with an inland track...known as an inside slider... moves from Oregon towards Nevada and Utah.

The result will be a period of strong offshore winds. Winds may gust from 55 to 60 mph in favored areas in Ventura County such as Wiley Ridge. Across the immediate Simi Valley area, winds may gust from the northeast at 30 to 40 mph.

The strongest winds will be late Sunday night/early Sunday morning and last through early Sunday afternoon. Weaker offshore winds will move across the area on Monday, and offshore winds could again return late Wednesday into Thursday.
