By Reginald Stanley. Posted November 19, 2023, 10:10 PM.A cutoff low brought sporadic precipitation to parts of the region late Friday and Saturday, with precipitation in most areas being much less than predicted or even no measurable precipitation at all. The irregular nature of cutoff low pressure systems makes them more difficult to reliably predict than most other types of storm systems. In this instance, parts of Northern and Central California received generous amounts of precipitation, while the majority of areas from Los Angeles south and eastwards were largely left out. Parts of San Diego County were somewhat fortunate, benefiting from modest shower activity Friday evening - a portion of this precipitation travelled crossed into Riverside County, impacting Anza. Other shower activity was limited to no further south than Ventura County, as well as parts of the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles. WeatherCurrents stations in Hemet, Anza, and Simi Valley were the only stations in the WeatherCurrents network to receive 0.10 inches or above during this event. WeatherCurrents stations in Lake Elsinore, Pinon Hills, Moreno Valley, Perris, and South Temecula all failed to register any measurable precipitation at all. Other WeatherCurrents stations recorded very light amounts of precipitation, mainly early Saturday morning. Precipitation totals for WeatherCurrents stations in Perris, Riverside (Orangecrest), and French Valley were borrowed and extrapolated from nearby stations available on the Wunderground website, due to rain gauge problems at the aforementioned WeatherCurrents stations. Santa Ana Winds were expected to begin developing late Sunday night as well as Monday, bringing a return of warm, dry conditions to the region through mid-week. Weaker winds were forecast for Tuesday. Onshore flow and cooler temperatures are forecast to return for Thanksgiving holiday as another shortwave trough moves through the region, however, there remains uncertainty regarding the possibility of precipitation through the weekend. Here are the rain totals for the WeatherCurrents network and associates. Communities that received no measurable precipitation are not included:
