A shortwave trough from the north brought scattered showers and even a few thunderstorms to parts of the region Friday, followed by lesser shower activity on Saturday.
Increasing clouds and patchy drizzle late Thursday evening eventually gave way to clusters of thunderstorms in parts of western Riverside and San Diego counties shortly after midnight Friday, however not all inland communities were affected. Much of the eastern valleys were significantly drier, as well as WeatherCurrents' stations in Simi Valley and Pinon Hills to the north. The Temecula Valley, Anza, and Hemet were hit by thunderstorms early Friday morning. Snow levels hovered between roughly 4500 and 5500 feet above sea level through Saturday. Storm totals were generally lower than forecast, in part due to the shortwave taking a more inland track than expected - providing less moisture. Across the WeatherCurrents network, storm totals ranged from 0.53 inches in Anza to only 0.01 in Simi Valley. In East Highland, a much higher total of 1.39 inches was reported (courtesy of Peter Michas), while in nearby Yucaipa, a total of 0.48 inches was reported (courtesy of Don Kramer) In Temecula Valley's Wine Country, 0.30 inches was reported (courtesy of Jim Sappington).
