By Reginald Stanley. Posted March 4, 2024, 7:39 PM.An upper low off of the coast of the Pacific Northwest brought scattered showers and unsettled weather to the region throughout the weekend, with the brunt of the precipitation falling on Saturday. Storm totals were considerably variable across the region, although the majority of communities accumulated totals under 1 inch between Friday night and Monday. In Temecula Valley's Wine Country, 1.08 inches was reported by Monday evening (courtesy of Jim Sappington). To the northwest, Simi Valley recorded 0.97 inches over the weekend. Due to the isolated, showery nature of the storm, storm totals varied greatly even across short distances. Moreno Valley received 0.73 inches, however the nearby communities of Riverside (Orangecrest) and Perris both received far less, with respective totals of 0.26 and 0.11 inches each - both over half an inch lower than Moreno Valley. Precipitation amounts were more consistent inside the Temecula Valley, where totals between 0.3 and 0.6 inches were observed; as well as the eastern valleys (including East Hemet, San Jacinto and Anza) where totals were 1/4 inch or less. The region will dry out under weak ridging on Tuesday, before a trough brings another chance of rain Wednesday night and Thursday. Projected storm totals from this upcoming system are mostly under 1/2 inch across the inland valleys and coasts. Depending on the storm's track, totals could be higher in southern San Diego County and northern Baja California. Weak ridging and warming are forecast to return for the weekend.
