The inland valleys of Southern California received another winter soaking this past weekend, with up to two inches of rainfall dumped on our already soggy communities.
The heavy rain and showers came on the heels of a very wet January, and extended rainfall leads to 4-6 inches above the normal to date.
Murrieta led the way this time, with 2.02", with French Valley and De Luz closely behind at 1.99" and 1.94", respectively.
Hefty totals were also recorded in Temecula (1.85"), Lake Elsinore (1.72"), Fallbrook (1.68"), Hemet (1.67") and Wildomar (1.52").
WeatherCurrents' station in the Canyon Crest of Riverside recorded the lowest amount for the storm, 0.60". Moreno Valley was also under an inch, at 0.93".
Problems from the latest deluge were numerous, including temporary closures of the Ortega Highway above Lake Elsinore and a washout on Highway 74 near Highway 243.
Direct travel between Hemet and Idyllwild was blocked due to the washout of the embankment on the 74.
Despite attempted fixes, the rain gauge in Perris remained inoperable through this latest storm. A complete cleaning of the gauge in Moreno Valley has returned it to reliable service.
