By Reginald Stanley. A cutoff low pressure system moving between Point Conception and the Great Basin to the northeast throughout the week, brought periods (sometimes bursts) of wind, rain and thunderstorms to much of the region - primarily on Thursday. Pre-frontal bands of moisture began arriving in Southern California late Wednesday night, ahead of more organized thunderstorm activity which lasted throughout Thursday. Showers tapered off Thursday evening across the region, with less remaining instability bringing light rain to parts of the region on Friday. One final round of pop-up thunderstorms and showers swept across the region Friday night into early Saturday morning. Due to the localized burst-like thunderstorm activity on Thursday, precipitation totals varied considerably; from as high as 0.83 inches in Pinon Hills, to just 0.05 inches in Anza. In the Temecula Valley Wine Country, a modest total of 1.63 inches was reported (courtesy of Jim Sappington), while in the Canyon Crest neighborhood of Riverside, 0.32 inches had fallen (courtesy of Jim Ness). The majority of WeatherCurrents stations received totals between 0.3 and 0.7 inches by Friday evening. Warmer, drier weather is anticipated for the weekend as offshore flow develops. In addition, cooler and potentially wet weather are possible late next week. Here are the rain totals for the WeatherCurrents network and associates:
