Storm Totals: December 17th-18th, 2008

Posted December 19, 2008, 8:09 AM.

The second strong storm of the week blew into Southern California on Wednesday and Thursday, leaving 1-2" inches of rain in most inland locations, and sprinkling some higher locations in Temescal Valley with an inch or two of snow.

Rainfall was moderate and steady in most communities for most of Wednesday, coming down from the morning all the way through early Thursday morning. Rain was heaviest in the late morning, and again in the late afternoon and early evening, especially between 4pm and 9pm.

The Temecula Valley stations led the way for this storm, with Murrieta registering 2.14" and Temecula at 2.06". Lake Elsinore was next with 1.73", then Menifee at 1.64" and San Jacinto at 1.62".

All WeatherCurrents communities received more than inch. At the bottom was Riverside at 1.12", Hemet at 1.19", and Fallbrook, surprisingly, at 1.44". Fallbrook is usually near or at the top for most storms.

For non-WeatherCurrents locations, a whopping 2.30" was recorded in the Temecula Valley Wine Country.

In eastern San Jacinto, the rain was reportedly mixed with sleet.

We've received pictures of the snowfall in Horsethief Canyon Ranch later on Wednesday and will be publishing them shortly. Snow there fell to around the 1,200 foot level. In areas around Lake Elsinore that didn't get snowfall, the western Santa Ana mountain range was blanketed in white.

Most of the snow was above 2,000 feet.
