First Major Storm of the Season to Soak Valley This Weekend

Our long dry spell is about to come to a decisive end. A major storm system is moving into Southern California and is set to deliver a soaking rain to Hemet and San Jacinto. This isn't a typical quick-moving storm. It is a slow, moisture-rich system pulling a deep plume of water vapor from the subtropics. This will lead to a long-duration rain event for the entire region. What to Expect: Timing: While light showers are possible as early as Thursday night, the main event begins Friday and continues through the weekend. The most widespread, heavy rain is expected from Friday night through Saturday. Rainfall: Current forecasts show widespread totals of 1 to 2 inches in the valley, with locally higher amounts possible, especially near the foothills. Impacts: With this much rain, residents should be prepared for slick roads, low visibility, and potential urban flooding in low-lying areas and intersections. Plan for extra travel time if you have to be out this weekend. |
