May Gray drizzle on Sunday, thunderstorms reported Tuesday

By Reginald Stanley. Posted May 18, 2016, 7:50 PM.

A deep marine layer, typically associated with May Gray during this time of the year, brought measurable precipitation to some communities on Sunday. Unstable weather, including isolated thunderstorms, was reported in the eastern valleys on Tuesday afternoon.

On Sunday, three WeatherCurrents stations reported rainfall. Beaumont (Cherry Valley) and De Luz both reported 0.05 inches, while Fallbrook recorded 0.01 inch. In East Highland, 0.05 inches was reported (courtesy of Peter Michas). After a brief intermission on Monday, some of the eastern valleys reported thunderstorms on Tuesday afternoon. Anza recorded 0.03 inches while East Hemet recorded 0.02 inches. The greatest total was 0.08 inches in East San Jacinto (courtesy of Monty Parrott), who also reported that the same thunderstorm dropped an even greater amount at Cabazon PK (0.87 inches), approximately five miles east of his location.

Warm weather was not expected to last much longer inland, as the influence of a low pressure system increases and strong onshore flow deepens the marine layer once again later this week. At the time of this writing, a small chance of showers exists over the weekend throughout the region. Rain, if any, is expected to be less than 1/10 of an inch.
