A cold Pacific storm brought rain to the region Thursday, ending a mid-month warm spell. Showers began early Thursday morning and continued on and off throughout the day. As the storm exited the region late Thursday night and early Friday morning, patchy dense fog resulted in drizzle in some parts of the Inland Empire.
The storm was not particularly wet, rain totals were mostly under 1/3 of an inch. Some notable exceptions include Menifee, which is normally on the drier side of storms, where 0.52" was recorded. In East San Jacinto, 0.50" was recorded (courtesy of Monty Parrott). Pea-sized hail was reported Thursday afternoon in Central Murrieta (0.41", courtesy of Michael Mojarro). Other contributed totals included 0.35" in East Highland (courtesy of Peter Michas), 0.32" in Temecula Valley's Wine Country (courtesy of Jim Sappington), 0.26" in Southeast Temecula (courtesy of Jim Purpura), and 0.21" in Southeast Wildomar (courtesy of Reginald Stanley).
The lowest totals were recorded in the communities of Simi Valley (0.05"), Canyon Crest (0.05") and Wildomar (0.03").
Gradual warming and offshore flow were in the forecast for next week, including Christmas. No rain is in the forecast through at least New Years Day. Seasonal rainfall-to-date for most communities continues to stay below average for this time of year.
