A summer-like heat wave this weekend produced the first 100°F+ temperatures west of the mountains yesterday, on Mother's Day.

Wildomar was the hottest with a high of 103.4°F, followed by Lake Elsinore with 102.1°F. Other areas that exceeded 100°F include both Riverside (Canyon Crest) and Moreno Valley with 101.4°F, Jurupa Valley at 100.3°F, Hemet with 100.2°F, and San Bernardino with 100.1°F. Menifee narrowly avoided the 100°F mark with a high of 99.9°F.

Perris topped out at 99.3°F, South Temecula at 99.1°F, and French Valley at 98.5°F. Areas closer to the coast were still warm as well, particularly De Luz with a high of 98.2°F. Fallbrook was a few degrees cooler with 93.8°F. San Diego's City Heights community reached 92.3°F. Simi Valley recorded a high of 94.0°F, Murrieta with 93.7°F, and Beaumont (Cherry Valley) with 92.8°F.

Anza was the coolest with a high of 88.7°F.

The high for Riverside's Presidential Park on Sunday was not available.

The heat is not finished just yet. Today's highs will also peak near yesterday's temperatures, challenging triple-digits once again. At the time of this writing, temperatures at 18 of the 19 WeatherCurrents stations were already above 90°F and four of them above 100°F. Several communities are already recording hotter temperatures today than yesterday - namely Anza, City Heights, and South Fallbrook.

Sunday marked the first time any of these communities had recorded 100 degree temperatures since October 17th, 2012.

High pressure is expected to weaken starting Tuesday. Northerly low pressure will bring a cooling trend and a more prevalent marine layer into next weekend.
