New Year Off to Dry Start

After a wet December, and in spite of El Nino conditions in the equatorial Pacific, the first week of January is predicted to be dry. But not the second week. Or the month. NOAA's Climate Prediction Center is predicting that the current dry spell (which, other than a brief interruption December 30th, began before Christmas), to end sometime in the second full week of January. The chances of greater than average rainfall are rated at 33% eight to fourteen days from now, and 40% for the month of January. The outlook for winter is a 50% chance of greater than normal rainfall. Average rainfall for January is 2.4" in Temecula, 2.95" in Murrieta, 3.92" in Fallbrook, 2.12" in Hemet and 1.70" in Lake Elsinore, according to WeatherCurrents stations in each community. |
