By Reginald Stanley. Posted January 5, 2024, 5:23 PM.A fast-moving cold front brought rain and wind to the region Wednesday, with the majority of the precipitation falling early Wednesday morning before exiting to the east. Low pressure moving south over California brought rain and mountain snow to the state throughout Tuesday, before reaching most of Southern California early Wednesday morning. After the main band of precipitation exited the region, some post-frontal showers and even sporadic thunderstorms developed over some inland communities, although little precipitation was recorded during this time. Storm totals across the WeatherCurrents network were mostly between 0.25 and 0.40 inches, while more northerly locations such as Pinon Hills and Simi Valley received less. Hemet recorded the highest total with 0.40 inches, while Pinon Hills recorded the lowest total with 0.13 inches. In Temecula Valley's Wine Country, 0.38 inches was reported (courtesy of Jim Sappington). A cold air mass and gusty winds were left in the storm's wake. A period of cool days and chilly nights followed the storm. An inside slider-type storm is forecast to bring light precipitation, more gusty winds and another blast of cold air over the weekend. Snow levels are currently predicted to fall to roughly 4000 feet above sea level, with some snow accumulation above 5000 feet. The National Weather Service issued a variety of High Wind Warnings for the mountains and deserts, and a Winter Weather Advisory in the mountains where snow accumulation and strong winds are expected. Here are the rain totals for the WeatherCurrents network and associates:
