Monday is hottest day of year in many inland valley communities

Posted September 27, 2010, 3:02 PM.

A late September heat wave continued to scorch the inland valleys Monday, leading to the hottest day of the year in many locations.

Monday was the hottest day of the year in Temecula (110°F), Murrieta (109°F), Hemet (110°F), Riverside (109°F), Fallbrook (109°F), De Luz (108°F), and French Valley (108°F).

Lake Elsinore (111°F), Wildomar (110°F), Menifee (107°F), Perris (106°F) and Moreno Valley (106°F) set their highs for the year on August 25th and 26th, and today's temperatures narrowly missed those highs.

At the newer French Valley location, Monday's high temperature was the hottest ever recorded. High temperatures elsewhere were a few degrees short of all-time highs.

Conditions will still be hot Tuesday, but not as hot as today, and mid-level moisture will move in to make things stickier. Thunderstorms west of the mountains can't currently be ruled out for Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the most recent National Weather Service forecasts.

Temperatures will still be hot through much of the week, but are expected to continue to slide into next weekend.
