Twin Storm Forecast Update

Two storms are forecast to hit Southern California this weekend, on Saturday afternoon and night and again on Sunday night and Monday. Because the jet stream is projected to remain to the north of us, the intensity of the Saturday storm has been scaled back. Current predictions are for about a quarter of an inch from Saturday's storm in western Riverside and northern San Diego counties, and over an inch Sunday night and Monday. Some areas that are prone to more rain (like southwestern-facing slopes) could get a lot more. These are not particularly cold systems, so snow levels in the local mountains should be around 7,000 feet. The snow level might decline some Monday. Los Angeles county and counties to the north are expected to be hit much harder by these systems. Incrementally higher rainfall amounts and localized flooding are predicted. The northerly path of the jet stream will be more bad news for northern California, which has been hit hard with storms, flooding, and high surf for the past week or so. |
