Cool, damp weather affects region Friday

By Reginald Stanley. Posted May 21, 2022, 8:53 PM.

An extensive low pressure trough over the western US brought unseasonably cool, and occasionally wet weather to the region Friday, with several locations recording measurable rainfall.

A deep marine layer largely failed to lift even deep into the inland valleys, extending as far as the edge of Palm Springs on Friday. Virtually all areas experienced at least some drizzle, although not enough to measure on a widespread scale. In East Highland, a fairly wet 0.39 inches was reported (courtesy of Peter Michas) while a total of 0.12 inches was reported in nearby Yucaipa (courtesy of Don Kramer). In Temecula Valley's Wine Country, 0.10 inches was reported (courtesy of Jim Sappington). In the WeatherCurrents network, four stations received measurable precipitation - Moreno Valley recording the highest total among them, with 0.05 inches. South Fallbrook was second with 0.02 inches recorded there, while WeatherCurrents' stations in French Valley and Simi Valley tied with 0.01 inch.

Strengthening high pressure is forecast to bring warmer weather going into next week, peaking around Wednesday-Thursday. Another low pressure trough is expected to bring slight cooling next weekend.
