Storm Totals: March 17th-21st and March 28th-29th

Posted April 2, 2006, 3:20 PM.

A series of late winter storms, some of them unusually wet, spilled into spring, making March the wettest month of the year and of the rainy season to date in western Riverside and northern San Diego counties.

April traditionally has half as much or less rainfall than March, but another wet storm was due April 3rd through 5th, which might dump more than an inch of rain.

Rain was recorded on more than half the days in the latter part of March. De Luz and the Santa Rosa Plateau continued to get the most rainfall. Sun City and Canyon Crest (in Riverside) accounted for the least rainfall amounts.

In addition to the totals at the end of this article, some locations recorded small amounts of rainfall on the 25th and 26th, particularly Fallbrook and De Luz.

With most of the rainy season over, rainfall remained well below average despite healthy late winter rains. Temecula was only approaching 8 inches of total rainfall for the season, only two-thirds of normal (around 12"). Rainfall was catching up, though, since season totals were only around half normal at the beginning of March. Normal totals were not available for most of the other WeatherCurrents stations due to their relatively recent installation.

The following storm totals were recorded for the final storms of March (communities are ranked by season totals):
