An upper low over Southern California brought another wet couple of soggy couple of days to the region late in the week, acting as part two in a rain-soaked week of storm systems.

Thursday was the wettest day at most locations last week, or otherwise coming in at a close second behind Tuesday. Heavy precipitation affected the region Thursday afternoon, drenching the Inland Empire and causing minor street flooding in some communities. The warm nature of the storm, benefiting from subtropical moisture, meant snow levels were once again very high - above 7,000 feet. Residual showers and wrap-around moisture continued to affect the region after Thursday, resulting in a damp Friday, and some isolated drizzle continuing even into Saturday. Precipitation after Thursday was mostly light.

Storm totals during the Thursday-Saturday period were consistently large across the WeatherCurrents network and associates, ranging from 1.31 inches in Lake Elsinore to 2.71 inches in Beaumont (Cherry Valley). Orographics appeared to favor the San Bernardino Mountain foothills again, resulting in the largest totals occurring in that region. West of Beaumont, 2.58 inches was reported in Yucaipa (courtesy of Don Kramer) as well as a total of 2.50 inches in East Highland (courtesy of Peter Michas). Simi Valley - which had fared relatively poorly during Tuesday's storm - in contrast, recorded one of the wetter totals on Thursday, with 2.10 inches by Saturday's end. WeatherCurrents' station in East Hemet contrasted with its counterpart in nearby San Jacinto, where Hemet was noticeably wetter than San Jacinto. Hemet's total of 2.37 inches stood tall over San Jacinto's comparatively low 1.69 inches - a difference of 0.68 inches across only a short distance. San Jacinto's total was also matched by Pinon Hills, north of Los Angeles.

The Temecula Valley, while still quite wet, ended up on the lower side of storm totals. Lake Elsinore, Wildomar, Murrieta and Temecula all landed in the bottom tier of this event's storm totals, between 1.31 inches in Lake Elsinore and 1.55 inches in Temecula Valley Wine Country (courtesy of Jim Sappington). All such stations recorded totals similar to each other. East of Temecula, the total of 1.55 inches recorded in Temecula Valley's Wine Country was slightly wetter than the 1.41 inches observed in South Temecula. The typically wet foothill communities of De Luz and Fallbrook both tallied somewhat average by Saturday afternoon.

A wet March-to-date has given a much-needed boost to what were below-average season totals up to this point in the season. The wet weather is forecast to continue into the following week, with even colder storm systems in store for Southern California.
