Remnants of Hurricane Sergio bring unstable weather Friday

By Reginald Stanley. Posted October 12, 2018, 7:40 PM.

A low pressure trough began to interact with and pull moisture from the remnants of former Hurricane Sergio northward Friday, affecting northern Baja California and Southern California this weekend.

Increasing cloudiness and humidity were observed across the region Friday, as thunderstorms began to scatter into the region Friday afternoon. Most of the activity remains just offshore, however part of the Temecula Valley has already been hit by a single thunderstorm that popped up near Lake Elsinore around 6 PM. Thunderstorms are expected to increase and spread over the region going into the overnight hours. On Saturday, chances of thunderstorms will remain particularly high in the mountains and deserts, as well as the valleys. Although inland communities are predicted to receive between 0.10 and 0.50 inches of rain, if any at all - the unstable nature of this event means that amounts may vary quite significantly.

Moisture associated with the former Hurricane Sergio remnants will head east towards the end of the day Saturday. Offshore flow will follow on Sunday, bringing warmer temperatures and dry weather.
